Collaborative Heads (Advanced)
cohort

About the cohort

This equipping workshop is for school heads, board members, or key administrators of collaborative schools.  The cohort is intended for those who are beyond the start-up phase and who are interested in growing and refining.  Members will have direct access to myself and other members of my team who are experienced in running collaborative schools. During the cohort term, we will be available for real-time questions. They will also gain knowledge from and build relationships with other members of the group. By the end of the term, you will have a strong network of other school heads or board members in your same situation. You will also be connected to the broader network of collaborative schools.  In the midst of training and resourcing, we will create space to work on each member’s trouble spots within their school.

Meeting Dates and Time: Beginning Sept 16, third Friday of the month at 1 PM CST

Syllabus

We will learn how to recruit and hire the best people for your school. We will cover the faculty interview and onboarding process.

We will work on the best practices for family and students interviews, assessments, and admissions processing.

We will discuss how to build a long-term org chart that captures where you currently are as an organization and where you need to be in 7 years. This will include discussion on options for how to build an administration and which important hire to make next.

We will work on the necessary processes of training the faculty and parent community. Training is a unique challenge on the collaborative model and takes great planning and effort.

We will work on the ideal version of the annual calendar. We will discuss key events for your school and how to facilitate them. We will evaluate school paradigms that are both simple and complex and why you might choose one of the other.

We will work on the strategic planning process that should guide your school for years to come.

We will compare notes on how to build an annual budget and look at monthly reporting processes.

We will compare notes on how to prepare for a board meeting and also look at the board’s annual agenda.

Joining a cohort

In order to keep group sizes small, and maximize effectiveness, groups are limited in size (typically 10-12) and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are asked to commit to the work and engagement involved.

Due to the limited size, some individuals will be waitlisted until there are enough applicants to form a new group. Also, a minimum of six participants are needed for each group to make.
