Expanding the Toolbox: Approaches to Reading Latin

Joshua Smith discusses various approaches to reading Latin.

Participants will explore the difference between conceptual and procedural understanding and how each can be viewed and applied in the mathematics classroom. Discussion will center around strategies for developing and identifying conceptual understanding and instructional strategies for supporting student learning of mathematics.

This seminar will introduce a variety of approaches to Latin reading or translation that can be used at a variety of levels in the Latin classroom. Reading in Latin word order, metaphrasing, top-down and bottom-up reading approaches, and disambiguation skills are some of the topics that will be addressed.
