Position: Assistant Principal- Midtown (Rhetoric Campus)

Reports to: Midtown Principal
Position Purpose: Under the direction of the Rhetoric School Principal, the Assistant Principal will help lead the campus in all areas, with particular emphasis in faculty development.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years classical Christian teaching experience
- Leadership experience in educational or another professional field preferred
Faculty Development:
- Develop and deliver an annual New Teacher training course for Midtown faculty covering introductory philosophy of classical education, classical pedagogy, classroom management strategies, traditions and practices of Midtown, etc.
- Spend time observing each classroom on campus, with particular attention to less experienced teachers.
- Coach teachers in classical pedagogy and classroom management as needed.
- Work with the Principal to develop and implement improvement plans for teachers as needed.
- Work with the Principal to evaluate faculty needs, changes, hires etc. each spring during the hiring/contract cycle.
Provide Leadership in Rhetoric School Life:
- Assist the Principal with opening and closing the school (overseeing student dismissal) on a weekly basis.
- Cultivate trust-based relationships with students.
- Work with the Principal to address discipline issues as they arise, communicating effectively with students, faculty, and parents.
- Assist Principal with management of Matins, Evensong, and midday prayers.
- Provide oversight of the Midtown Campus when the Principal is off campus; manage the school schedule and address any student discipline, discipleship, or care needs that may develop.
- Assist the Principal in covering substitution needs as a last resort when other options have failed.
- Collaborate with the Principal on decisions related to campus hiring and staffing assignments.
Represent The Academy Rhetoric School’s leadership:
- Attend district wide administrative meetings when scheduling allows.
- Assist in planning and possibly speaking at events such as Parent Meetings, Rising to Rhetoric, etc.
- Attend occasional events such as ball games, theater productions, concerts, etc. in support of our student body.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to sit, talk, hear and maintain awareness of visitors to the classroom.
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Able to stand for extended periods of time as needed.
- Able to work at desk and computer for extended periods of time as needed.
- Able to turn, bend, reach and occasionally use a ladder if needed.
