Assistant Superintendent Job Description

Summary

            The Assistant Superintendent works closely with the Superintendent.  The Assistant Superintendent first and foremost embodies the Mission of Aristoi Classical Academy. In word and deed, the Assistant Superintendent models the mature achievement of classical education— clear thinking, cogent communication, magnanimity and humility in relationship, and integrity in leadership. The Assistant Superintendent is active in communicating the Mission of the school to students, parents, teachers, and the wider community. The Assistant Superintendent collaborates with the Superintendent and Board to faithfully carry Aristoi’s Mission into new contexts as the school faces new challenges and opportunities. The Assistant Superintendent promotes high standards and expectations for the entire school community.  He/She manages, evaluates, and supervises clear and effective procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the mission, vision, and philosophy (mvp) of the school.  This includes the goals of the instructional programs, extracurricular activities, discipline system, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management and emergency procedures. The Assistant Superintendent also assists with compliance with all laws and board policies.  The Assistant Superintendent has a critical role in the charter’s establishment of new campuses and is intricately involved in ensuring academic excellence and adherence to Aristoi’s school culture.

 

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree required from an accredited university (Liberal Arts Discipline preferred)

Classical education preferred

Teaching experience (classical education preferred)

Administrative experience required

Teacher evaluation experience required

 

Promote school mission, vision, and philosophy

  • facilitate an understanding of classical education among School Board, administration, faculty, staff, parents, students, and community
  • adopt and promote the vision of the School Board and the principles of the charter
  • represent the School to the community in a way that upholds the School's mission and philosophy
  • ensure all extra-curricular activities uphold the mission and philosophy of the school
  • keep informed of the current state of education in the nation
  • work with Headmasters to ensure quality of non-academic operations of the school including student life, school environment, and athletics

 

Maintain the academic integrity of the school

  • ensure that the curriculum and its delivery is academically sound and consistent with the principles of classical education

 

School and Faculty Management

  • be familiar with the duties of all personnel
  • work with the Superintendent to become familiar with the maintenance of adequate records for the school, including a system of financial accounts; business and property records; and personnel, school population, and scholastic records, and acting as custodian of such records and of all contracts, securities, documents, title papers, books of records, and other papers belonging to the School Board unless otherwise prescribed by law or the Corporation's bylaws
  • assist the Superintendent and administration in the implementation of the School Board’s Five Year Strategic Plan, report on its progress, and recommend areas to be addressed for future plans

 

Facilities

  • assist in the development of school buildings and grounds, make recommendations as to the location and size of new school sites and of additions to existing sites as well as providing data on appropriations for sites & buildings and improvements, alterations, and changes in the buildings and equipment of the school

 

Community Relations

  • communicate regularly with the school community through a newsletter and updated website
  • represent Aristoi in public relations opportunities at community events and organization meeting

 

Fundraising

  • recognize that fundraising is a priority and act accordingly by working with the development director, business office and within the larger community
