Position Description for the Dean of Academics
Position Summary:
Elijah House Academy (EHA) is an urban, Christ-centered school that currently
serves over 170 students, transitional kindergarten through eighth grade. After
three decades of storied work with the children of Richmond, EHA is now years into
a shift in pedagogy associated with the renewal of our educational philosophy.
While our approach to instruction is continually becoming aligned with both
Charlotte Mason and classical ideals, we are also strategically growing our
enrollment. This upcoming year we are adding a second section to our third grade
class with plans to have two sections at each grade level within the next five years.
We are looking for our next academic leader to carry forward the good work of
implementing the renewed philosophy to our growing academic program.
The candidate we are looking for will be well aligned with our philosophy, will
possess a strong record of academic leadership, and will embrace our vision for
continued strategic program growth. Leadership of our full academic program,
including curriculum and student learning, will be the primary responsibility of the
team member in this position. The Dean of Academics works in collaboration with
the leadership team, and will primarily serve the teaching faculty.
Position Reporting Responsibility:
This position reports directly to the Head of School.

● Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, urban Christian
education including a mature ability to steward cross-cultural relationships well
● Demonstrate soft skills such as emotional intelligence, conflict
resolution/peacemaking, etc.
● Hold a graduate degree and/or an equivalent record of experience in
educational leadership
Position Requirements/Qualifications:

● Demonstrate a growing relationship with Jesus Christ
● Understand and be in agreement with EHA’s statement of religious beliefs
● Understand and be well aligned with EHA’s mission, vision, values, philosophy of
education, and student formation beliefs
● Hold at least a bachelor’s degree with preference given to a master’s degree or
an equivalent record of experience in leadership
● Offer experience in leadership and management with strong preference give to
a school setting
● Knowledge and experience with classical and or Charlotte Mason pedagogy
(strongly preferred)
Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. TK-8 Academic Program
a. Lead EHA’s academic program toward alignment with our philosophy
of education and student formation beliefs
b. Strategically plan, manage and evaluate the academic program and
curriculum
c. Oversee execution of testing and analyze data with the goal of student
and program growth
d. Collaborate with the administrative team to meet goals that align with
the strategic plan
2. Faculty
a. Assist the Head of School with faculty hiring
b. Plan and execute the faculty professional development program
c. Plan and execute faculty meetings
d. Oversee and evaluate faculty goal planning and execution
e. Regularly observe classrooms
f. Perform both a mid-year and end-of-year evaluation
g. Oversee teacher duties
3. Admissions
a. In coordination with the Admissions Manager, execute communication
with parents following admissions testing
b. Provide recommendations for student placement to the Head of
School
c. Create a plan for academic remediation where indicated
4. Parents
a. Oversee parent communication relating to academics
b. Plan and oversee parent/faculty conferences relating to academics
5. Students
a. Oversee academic support services
b. Provide the Head of School with feedback on students who are
under-performing academically

 

Salary: $65,000-$75,000
