Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Director of Advancement will build upon Regents’ considerable fundraising successes. The successful candidate will bring best practices in advancement and provide the infrastructure, support, and resources to the school. This person will engage the entire school community – including administration, alumni, parents, and faculty – in shaping strategy, priorities, structures, and plans for supporting a culture of philanthropy and growing revenue.
The successful candidate will provide leadership for securing public and private support to advance the mission of the school as well as develop and maintain relationships with alumni, donors, potential donors, and the local community. The Director of Advancement will also be responsible for management of the Development and Communications departments (Advancement Team) in advancing the mission of the school.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works closely with the Head of School to set a strategic direction for the school’s fundraising efforts, which includes identifying priorities, policies, strategies, and tactics to advance non-tuition revenue to include unrestricted giving as well as restricted gifts to support co-curricular, educational, and capital projects.
- Develops and guides the implementation of a comprehensive yearly advancement plan that complements the funding needs of the school.
- Develop and execute annual communication and marketing plans that engage internal and external constituents in the support and promotion of the school.
- Identify emerging marketing opportunities, design effective targeting strategies, and report on results.
- Collaborate with the Admissions and Development teams to develop strategies to recruit prospective students and engage committed alumni and families.
- Supervises and leads the Development Team and supports and coordinates the activities of that team
- Responsible for the coordination of all fundraising activities, including identification, qualification, and assignment of prospects, cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship. Methods of funding the plan may include, but not be limited to annual giving, alumni giving, planned giving, special events, major gifts, partnerships, customized programs, and related business activities like consulting ventures.
- Works with the Advancement Team on the design and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to market the school to its constituencies in order to enhance the school’s image and relationships with various external and internal audiences within the community, helping meet enrollment targets and encouraging support from the community.
- Supervises and leads the Alumni Coordinator and supports and coordinates the activities of the Regents Alumni Network
- Supervises and leads the Communications Coordinator on school promotional programs including media relations, community contacts, alumni relations, community outreach programs, campus publications, and the website.
- Provides direction for key marketing/advertising needs of the school.
- Participates in professional organizations and professional development opportunities and promotes the professional development of Advancement Team.
- Leads weekly Advancement Team meetings; Facilitates the evaluation processes related to the Advancement Team staff.
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The successful Director of Advancement candidate will have experience and expertise in the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least five years of documented non-profit experience.
- Christian maturity that demonstrates a desire and capacity to create a healthy working environment.
- Demonstrated success in a broad range of fundraising areas in an educational institution, preferably a private school or university, or an environment of similar complexity. Experience in facilitating individual giving, major gifts, corporate and foundation relations is essential.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising campaigns and conducting and evaluating research.
- Proven ability to provide management oversight, leadership, and strategic direction in order to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships.
- Strong communication and personnel management skills to develop an efficient and progressive advancement operation.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning and utilizing other software applications
- Master’s degree in business, public relations, sales and marketing, or related field
- Ten+ years working in responsible fundraising and management positions in an independent private school, with a history of prospect development, management and solicitation, event planning, promotion and marketing
- Mastery of donor relationship software, preferably Blackbaud Raisers Edge
