Director of Development
Ad Fontes Academy exists to glorify God by assisting Christian parents in equipping their children to be servant leaders through a classical education based on eternal biblical truth.
Ad Fontes Academy in Centreville, Virginia, is a Christ-centered, classical school that has been educating and shaping students for more than 25 years. Ad Fontes’ Director of Development is the dynamic and motivated leader of the development department, and develops, implements, and fosters strategy, initiatives, and partner relationships on behalf of the school.
This position will work with and report to the Head of School and collaborates closely with the senior leadership team, the board of trustees’ development chair, development department staff, and Ad Fontes parent volunteers.
This is a full-time, year-round position with full benefits.
Scope
Directing Ad Fontes’ Development Strategy and Department Functions (60%)
- Manage direct reports and contract service vendors (i.e., grants, consultants, etc.)
- Strategically implement a defined donor cycle with identified audiences including current families, grandparents, alumni, alumni families, grant writing/foundations, and external friends
- Lead special projects such as capital campaigns, special funding projects, corporate sponsorship development, and annual report
- Engage in professional development and networking
- Annual Fund
- Events (examples might include golf tournament, auction, Giving Day, and various stakeholder events including alumni and grandparents)
- Communication (website, social media, videos, emails, donor cycle for all audiences)
- Development office administration (budget, reconciling with accounting, CRM/data management, acknowledgment letters, et)
Partner Stewardship (20%)
- Major donor relationship focus including account planning, meetings, and communications with identified partners (solicitation, cultivation, stewardship)
Stakeholder Engagement (20%)
- Senior staff team collaboration, working with HOS, task force initiatives as needed
- Board of Trustees including development department reports and updates
- Advancement committee (approximately 4 meetings per year)
Job Qualifications
- Specific not-for-profit development experience with a proven track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and sustaining donor relationships preferred
- Self-starter who takes initiative with attention to detail
- Experience managing people
- Demonstrated effective collaboration in the workplace
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly interpersonal and relational
- Demonstrated competency in establishing authentic relationships with donors or clients
- Proficient working knowledge of portfolio management and fundraising strategies
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong time management skills and project management skills
- Evidence of technology skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite as well as the ability to learn and navigate multiple databases and software systems
General Requirements
- A committed Christian regularly attending a Christian church congregation in alignment with Ad Fontes Academy Statement of Faith
- A foundational understanding and passion for classical Christian education and “the case for AFA”
- A four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Prefer at least five years of work experience in a professional environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all circumstances
- A reputation of high integrity
