Position Overview
The primary role of the Educational Support Coordinator is to support the Director of Educational Support to provide well for students who present with learning differences and other diagnoses that require individual accommodations. This includes providing oversight and assistance for special educational needs presented by specific learning cohorts; such as reading development issues, Math proficiency issues, etc. Educational Support staff will work in tandem with Educational Team members and Chairs of Departments to ensure students meet benchmark standards outlined in grade level blueprints. The Educational Support Coordinator will assist Admissions Staff when evaluating admission decisions for students who present with special needs. Specific job descriptions are depicted below.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a corresponding degree field required.
- Master's degree in a related field (see above) or 3+ years experience in Special Education or working with students with learning or developmental needs required.
Responsibilities
- Support teachers and evaluate student needs when concerns exist.
- Work with the Director of Educational Support to evaluate student learning needs, write, and implement educational support plans.
- Assist the Director with the task of managing all educational support plans at his/her assigned campus. This includes editing plan updates on an annual and bi-annual basis.
- Manage parent and faculty meetings with the intent of assessing and meeting student learning needs.
- Monitor cohort patterns that manifest macro learning hurdles, then collaborate with Academy staff to develop and oversee strategic intervention plans.
- Assist the Director to develop and deliver faculty training seminars related to learning accommodations, learning differences, and various other topics related to student development.
- Assist the Director to further develop the educational support program at The Academy.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding information about student learning needs and educational support plans.
- If trained as an NILD Educational Therapist, provide Educational Therapy for students who qualify for the academic program.
