Title: Head of Elementary
Reports to: Headmaster
Duty days: 12-Months
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Hours: 7:15 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday (Some weekends and evenings will be required).

The Head of Elementary School first and foremost embodies the Mission of Aristoi Classical Academy. In word and deed, the Head models the mature achievement of classical education— clear thinking, cogent communication, magnanimity and humility in relationship, integrity in leadership. The Head is active in communicating the Mission of the school to students, parents, teachers, and the wider community. The Head collaborates with the Headmaster, Superintendent, and School Board to faithfully carry Aristoi’s mission into new contexts as the school faces new challenges and opportunities.

The Head of Elementary embraces a dual identity—he or she is at once the head-teacher among all fellow teachers and staff and the administrator of a growing charter school, multiple buildings, and grounds. Thus, on the one hand, as the leader of an elementary classical school, this individual must establish authority as an able educator and scholar with the ability to speak knowledgeably to issues of classical liberal arts pedagogy, curriculum, and philosophy of education; on the other hand, as the individual directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of an entire campus, the Head must possess exemplary management capabilities including effective use of time, the judicious selection of priorities, the ability to productively delegate, and a comfort with holding other parties accountable to fulfill their responsibilities.


  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree required, Classical education degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience is required (classical and elementary education preferred)
  • Certified Professional Development and Appraisal System appraiser required

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Ongoing classical education development
  • Teaching and leadership experience to develop the elementary program
  • Thorough understanding and ability to coordinate campus operations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong focus on the creation of an orderly disciplined environment
  • Love and Logic trained and become a trained facilitator


  • Two years’ experience as a classroom teacher
  • Administrative experience preferred

Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Reports to the Headmaster
  • Implements school mission, vision, and philosophy
  • Communicates the school’s classical distinction to the community
  • Development the educational plan, curriculum, policies and programs for final approval by Headmaster and Superintendent
  • Designs in-service program in collaboration with Headmaster and Superintendent
  • Leads and facilitates Elementary faculty meetings
  • Meets regularly with lead teachers
  • Works alongside the PEIMS coordinator to produce the Elementary master schedule to be approved by the Headmaster
  • Develops and manage Elementary programs and extra-curricular
  • Pursues opportunities for community involvement by the Aristoi community
  • Oversees a safe, clean and orderly facility
  • Supervises all Elementary personnel, directly or indirectly
  • Works alongside the Headmaster to complete the annual Campus Needs Assessment and Campus Improvement Plan
  • Oversees all goals and objectives for elementary departments and programs i.e. fine arts, extracurricular and clubs
  • Reviews and approves curriculum purchases and objectives
  • Implements opportunities for parent involvement
  • Submits the development recommendations for faculty, staff and administration to the Headmaster or Superintendent
  • Performs human resource duties of reviewing incoming employment applications, follow-up on references, interviews and teaching samples and then submitting to Headmaster or Superintendent for final interview and possible hire
  • Conduct classroom and teacher observations utilizing the teacher appraisal system
  • Conduct 1st semester informal documentation
  • Works alongside the Headmaster, Superintendent, and the Board regarding policies and procedures
  • Assists the Superintendent, Headmaster and Business Manager with budget planning regarding local and federal funds
  • Assists the Headmaster in coordinating training programs for teachers and staff regarding classical education, classroom management, curriculum, and TEA requirements `
  • Assists Headmaster or Superintendent with recruiting, hiring and job descriptions
  • Stays current on TEA regulations and the implementation of state requirements to ensure that the school is in compliance with these rules and expectations
  • Implements state regulation and assessments
  • Plans and facilitates all student and parent meetings and conferences.
  • Communicates and carries out established policies, delegates and accepts responsibilities for completion of tasks and communicates program goals, objectives and policies to the community
  • Promotes and maintains open communications, positive student attitudes, respects dignity, worth of staff, students and complies with established lines through a culture of love and logic
  • Conducts parent meetings required by Headmaster

Disciplinary duties

  • Works with the Headmaster and Superintendent and Student Services Coordinator to ensure consistent application of the Love and Logic philosophy of discipline
  • Ensures teachers understand and practice classroom management consistent with Love and Logic management and discipline
  • Works with the Headmaster and Superintendent and Student Services Coordinator to create a system of implementing consequences for disciplinary infractions and assure consistent application of the Aristoi Student Code of Conduct
  • Documents and maintain records of disciplinary actions by working with the Student Services
  • Coordinator and Special Education Coordinator
  • Communicates regularly with teachers concerning the well-being, achievement, and the success of the students Virtuous character training
  • Assists to define and disseminate information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff, and community.
  • Reports documented behavior history to the Headmaster
  • Works with Special Education Coordinator, Student Services Coordinator and counselor to implement disciplinary actions for students covered under student services

State Assessment Duties

  • Works alongside the District Testing Coordinator (DTC) to review all Elementary School testing to ensure that all school-wide testing as required by the state and federal authorities, School Board policies, and the Headmaster are administered
  • Coordinates and facilitates teacher training for state test administrations under the direction of the DTC
  • Works closely with RTI Coordinator to ensure Student Success Initiative is implemented, and monitor with follow-up throughout the school year
  • Oversees all communication to parents and teachers throughout the school year regarding all testing requirements under the direction of the DTC
  • Conducts Grade Placement Committee meetings in collaboration with teachers and parents to develop
  • Accelerated Instruction Plans (AIP) as required by state guidelines, along with the DTC
  • All other duties as assigned
