Overview:

The Head of School is the chief executive officer of Oakwell Academy, responsible for overseeing the daily operations and implementing the established long-term vision of the school. This individual provides leadership and direction in all aspects of school life, including academic programs, spiritual formation, faculty and staff management, school culture, and institutional growth. The Head of School is a committed follower of Jesus Christ, demonstrating leadership consistent with the mission and values of the school, which are centered on a Christian worldview and classical education in the University-ModelĀ® format.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Provide spiritual and educational leadership consistent with the school’s Christian mission and classical education philosophy.
  • Articulate and implement the school’s vision, mission, and values to students, faculty, staff, parents, and the wider community.
  • Lead strategic planning, goal setting, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure long-term success and sustainability.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, excellence, and discipleship within the school community.

Academic Oversight

  • Oversee the implementation and development of a rigorous classical curriculum aligned with the University-ModelĀ® format, ensuring both academic excellence and Christian integration across all disciplines.
  • Support faculty in maintaining high standards of instruction, assessment, and student engagement.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for faculty to grow in their pedagogical and spiritual expertise.
  • Monitor student performance and develop strategies to ensure academic growth and success, including intervention programs when necessary.

Spiritual Leadership

  • Model and promote the integration of Christian faith and learning throughout the school community.
  • Support the development of students’ spiritual formation through programs such as Bible classes, service opportunities, and other discipleship activities.
  • Lead faculty and staff to engage in the spiritual development of students and to embody Christ-like character in their relationships.

School Culture and Community Engagement

  • Foster a positive, nurturing school culture that reflects the values of love, respect, integrity, and other Biblical principles.
  • Develop strong relationships with parents, staff, students, and community leaders to build a thriving, supportive school community.
  • Oversee school events, including parent meetings, student activities, and community outreach, ensuring they align with the mission and vision of the school.

Administrative Leadership and Operations

  • Provide oversight and leadership in all aspects of school administration, including enrollment management, budgeting, personnel decisions, operational efficiency, and safety and security programs.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Supervise and evaluate school staff, fostering professional development, coaching, and accountability.
  • Manage the budget and financial resources of the school in collaboration with the School Board and finance committee, ensuring financial health and sustainability.

Board Relations

  • Report regularly to the School Board on the school’s health and performance, including academic progress, financial status, and strategic initiatives.
  • Work closely with the School Board to develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and goals.
  • Support the recruitment and retention of board members who are aligned with the mission of the school.

Enrollment and Marketing

  • Oversee the marketing and recruitment efforts of the school to attract and retain families who align with the school’s mission and values.
  • Develop strategies for increasing enrollment and maintaining a vibrant school community.
  • Cultivate relationships with prospective families, churches, and the broader community to build awareness and support for the school.

Facilities and Resource Management

  • Ensure that the physical facilities are well-maintained, safe, and conducive to learning and spiritual growth.

 

Qualifications:

Spiritual and Personal Qualities

  • Strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and active membership in a Bible-believing church.
  • Demonstrates Christ-centered leadership with a heart for service, discipleship, and mentoring.
  • Demonstrates a personal life of integrity, character, and purity, serving as a Christ-centered role model for students, staff, and the school community.
  • Commitment to integrating biblical principles and classical education in all aspects of school life.

Educational and Professional Experience

  • Master’s degree or commensurate experience in education, administration, or a related field
  • At least five years of leadership experience in an educational setting, with a proven track record of excellence in administration and academic management preferred.
  • Experience in a University-ModelĀ® or classical Christian school environment preferred.
  • An understanding of classical education, its philosophy, and its application within a Christian worldview.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, financial, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain a positive school culture and strong community relationships.
  • Skilled in strategic planning and goal setting.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in an office setting and attend school events both during and outside regular school hours.
  • Occasional travel for professional development, conferences, and outreach.
  • Ability to engage in physical activities with students and staff in various school events.
