Description
Humanities Teacher – Lower and Upper School Grades
This is a salaried position with a 10-month work schedule. This position may include language, history, or
other humanities assignments and be full or part-time. A full-time exempt position reflects the base
standard hours of 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. This position also requires attendance at regular staff
meetings, professional development sessions, and after hours parent teacher conferences. Course
assignments and additional duties will be determined based on the needs of the institution. The humanities
teacher will report to the Principal.
Position Overview
The teacher is responsible for the educational leadership of students in a teacher-led classroom. The
educational leader will understand, demonstrate the use of, and implement the Hillsdale K-12 curriculum,
student instruction, and assessment to maximize educational achievement for all students, and work
collaboratively to ensure a working and learning climate for all students that is safe, secure, and
respectful.
Teachers’ essential duties and responsibilities are as follows:● Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to classical education as embodied in the mission and philosophy
of Columbus Classical Academy and consistently develop, foster, and advance these concepts in students
● Demonstrate an understanding and mastery of essential curricular concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of
literary prose and poetry of various genres, effectively transmitting this knowledge to students
● Develop students’ ability to engage with course material through discussion, analysis, and composition
● Develop and maintain a classroom culture characterized by the seven classical virtues: fortitude, prudence, justice,
temperance, faith, hope, and charity
● Develop and implement a strategic planning system, including course lesson plans, by utilizing the Hillsdale K-12
Program Guide and curricula assigned under the leadership of the Principal
● Use formal and informal assessment strategies to gauge mastery and inform instruction
● Demonstrate effective daily time management and maintain the pace of the curriculum
● Engage every student in grade level-appropriate learning that promotes intellectual and moral development
● Use a multi-sensory approach to learning
● Provide students and parents with timely data for improvement in student achievement
● Demonstrate respect for students, parents, colleagues, school leaders, and community members by engaging in
thoughtful and collaborative dialogue
● Use classroom processes that support effective teaching and learning
● Model and reinforce good judgment, self-discipline, and responsibility
● Manage student misconduct promptly and resolving conflict and crises effectively
● Assist the Principal in inventorying non-consumable materials annually
● Perform other related duties as assigned (e.g., lunch and/or recess monitoring, car line duty, and morning or
afternoon duties)
Qualifications
A Columbus Classical Academy humanities teacher shall be a knowledgeable, responsible individual who
is an effective communicator, problem solver, and self-directed and lifelong learner. This teacher interacts
joyfully and meaningfully with students, parents, and colleagues.
Further qualifications for candidates include:
● Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
● Ability to demonstrate, uphold, and promote in daily interactions a commitment to Columbus Classical
Academy’s mission, including moral character and civic virtue
Additionally, strong candidates will:
● Understand the tenets of a classical, liberal arts education
● Position may be full-time for a qualified humanities candidate with flexibility and range across the
humanities department.

number for each reference
● A sample of your original academic or professional writing
Compensation, Benefits, & Hiring
Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits offered for full-time
employees include health benefits, 403(b), paid vacation, personal days, and paid holidays. Children will
receive enrollment priority if a parent is a full-time employee at the time of enrollment. All employees
will be required to pass background checks.
