UPPER SCHOOL HISTORY TEACHER - FULL TIME

Atlanta Classical Academy is seeking a humanities faculty member to teach various classes in the upper school. The primary teaching responsibility will be 11th grade American history and American government. This position reports to the Upper School Principal on Atlanta Classical Academy’s Atlanta campus.

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

>Build a class around primary sources and incorporate the Socratic method into daily instruction.
>Teach students the craft of the historian as they encounter the great thinkers that gave shape to the American experiment.
>Collaborate with political philosophy and American literature teachers to offer students a rich and interdisciplinary experience of the American Founding.
>Develop writing assignments and assessments that evaluate a student’s knowledge of a subject and precision of expression.
>Create a classroom environment consistent with Atlanta Classical’s core virtues.

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:

>Bachelor’s degree in history, classics, political science or a closely-related field is required
>Three to five years of related work experience
>Experience teaching in a classical school preferred
>Demonstrable experience with readings-based classes incorporating the Socratic method to the greatest possible extent preferred
>Ability to teach a range of electives such as moral or political philosophy is also preferable

About Atlanta Classical Academy:

Atlanta Classical Academy is an open-enrollment, public charter school open to students who reside within the Atlanta Public Schools district. The school opened in 2014 with grades K – 8, and has added a grade each year as students have advanced. It is now a K – 12 academy. The children of full-time employees have enrollment preference and would be offered a seat in the school.
