How do we get past the “ewww” factor and help our students appreciate the depth of Greek tragedy more fully? Focusing on the Oedipus plays, we will address finding beauty in the midst of tragedy, and how it is necessary to complete the experience of reading the Greek tragedians.
What role does beauty play in a school’s development? In what ways does attention to beauty help a school fulfill its mission and vision? This seminar will consider the nature of beauty in a school setting, as well as practical means for incorporating beauty at every level of school life.
The scientific worldview is often seen as soulless materialism, but from Classical Antiquity to the Twentieth Century scientists have found in beauty a source of discovery, confirmation and understanding. We shall discuss the significance of the role of beauty in science.
