Throughout college, I pursued a degree in both English teaching and secondary education. In that time I have worked with a variety of different age groups ranging from middle, high school, and beyond. I completed a one-year internship in a middle school, received my beginning educator certificate in English education (5-12), tutored college students, and taught one college class as requested by my professor. This experience has given me the tools and knowledge to share my passion and equip students and teachers with the skills and tools they need to succeed both within and out
Even with experience in a variety of different classrooms and working with an array of teaching styles, I am aware that there is always room for growth. I am a hard worker and willing to step up to the challenges that are presented. Researching, reading books, and collaborating with other teachers have been some of the ways that have helped me to grow in the past few years in the classroom. I find it is important to be open to feedback when it is given. It has helped me to see the areas in which I am weak and need to grow as well as where my strengths are.
As a professional, I have learned that is important to build a positive rapport with students and staff and contribute to the campus and the community. During my time in college and the few years after, I devoted time each week to volunteering as a barista at the Freedom Cafe in Durham, NH. The Freedom Cafe is a non-profit cafe with the goal of contributing to the end of human trafficking. During this time, I learned the importance of being involved with one’s community and it is my hope that I can pass this along to my students as well.
