Hybrid Heads
Equipping Workshop
WHAT ARE PARTICIPANTS SAYING?
About the workshop
Purpose
This Equipping Workshop is for school heads or board members of collaborative schools. The collaborative (hybrid, university-model, etc.) terminology is shorthand for schools that are programmed as a mixture of homeschooling and private education. Whether you are thinking of starting a school like this, have just started one, have been running one for years, or have just been hired on to an existing one, this cohort is for you. This group will work through all the principles and strategies that are essential to building and sustaining a collaborative model school. If you are currently sustaining a healthy school, this workshop would benefit you as you compare notes and refine processes.
Structure
As a six session intensive, it will meet weekly beginning the first week of February, 2022.

Syllabus overview
Introductions and Orientation to Distinctives/Challenges of the Collaborative Model
For the first week we will get oriented to each other, we will work to identify the common elements of our value for the model. We will look at the words we use and why we use them. We will identify and clarify why we are choosing to do school this way. We will then identify the most common obstacles to the collaborative model and why facing these obstacles are worth it. This will result in a guiding document for the building or the re-fortification of your mission and vision.
Heading a Collaborative School
During the second week, we will focus on the skills that are necessary to head a collaborative model school. I will tell my story of building and heading a collaborative school for 10 years. We will consider cycles of growing a school, issues of burnout, and the pursuit of rhythms that will promote longevity.
Mission / Vision / Branding / Core Principles / Core Documents
The third week we will work on building/refining core documents and knowing how to put these ideas to use in the life of the school. We will work on a one-page document that contains the core identity of your entire school on one sheet of paper.
Building Efficient Systems
The fourth week we will work on how to build the core administrative systems of your school. We will also discuss the value of being a systems-minded business while still fostering a classical ethos to your school.
The Relationship Between the Board and Head of School
The fifth week we will work on a plan for the evolving relationship between the board and head of school. We will assess the health of your current relationship and give you tools to make it stronger. We will also cover the role of the board and how to lead them from behind. Finally, we will learn what it means to be a strategic board and the art of a good board meeting.
Marketing, Admissions, and the Art of the Informational Meeting
The sixth week will focus on the strategies to market your school with a special emphasis on how to create a great monthly informational session for interested families. We will also cover the admissions process.

Events
Events grant us the opportunity to gather. As incarnational beings, nothing is better than being together. So having the chance to gather with like-minded classical Christian educators is a rich opportunity. That’s why so many of us return to SCL events year after year.
