St. Stephen’s Academy is seeking a new Headmaster to start in the summer of 2018. The next Headmaster will be a strong leader who embraces and advocates for classical Christian education both within our school and in the greater community. He or she will also be committed to shepherding students and staff in their Christian faith and maintaining the high standards, both academic and culturally, that our school is known for.
Founded in 1999, St. Stephen’s Academy is located in Beaverton, Oregon, a suburb west of Portland. With an enrollment of 275 students, SSA is one of three established classical Christian schools in the greater Portland metro area. SSA was established 18 years ago as a ministry of Evergreen Presbyterian Church(PCA) and our founders believed that the streams of classical and Christian thought could most successfully and lovingly be brought together within the worldview of the Protestant Reformation. While SSA wholeheartedly embraces anyone – Christian or not– who wants to come to our school, the men and women who have guided our school are convinced that Reformed Christianity has outcomes that are distinct from those of other streams of Christianity, and that we can best realize our hopes for SSA while keeping a Reformed perspective squarely in view. While being Reformed in perspective it is important to note that our student body is made up of students from over 60 different area churches.
The St. Stephen’s Academy Board of Directors operates under a Carver governance model and therefore the Headmaster is its only employee. The Headmaster is responsible for all operational aspects of the school and is assessed by the Board of Directors with performance of the organization towards its goals. Currently, the leadership structure of the organization has the following members reporting to the Headmaster: Dean of Academics, Dean of Students, Lower School Principal, Administrator, and Business Manager.
