2018 Arete Retreat

Theme

Creating High Performing Leadership Teams

What are the key elements of an effective leadership team? What drives true engagement and commitment? How can I increase my influence? How should we handle conflict and disagreement? What’s the secret to real accountability? These are questions that every leader must ask. Every school leader must be able to maximize the effectiveness of his or her team. At the 2018 Arete Retreat, these questions will be the focus of the training, discussion, and collaboration.

Content & Format

SCL is honored to have Mr. Waldemar Kohl, a Principal consultant with the Table Group, lead the Thursday sessions on Creating High Performing Leadership Teams. Many Heads and executives have utilized Patrick Lencioni’s (founder of the Table Group) books or consulting services, including The Five Dysfunctions of a Team and The Advantage. Lencioni’s work has become “the world’s most definitive source of practical information for building teams.”

On Friday, participants will be divided into groups of six, including one facilitator. Each group member will bring one issue to the workgroup and receive carefully structured feedback. These sessions will not only provide each participant with direct and immediate feedback on an important issue facing you as a leader, but will also provide an opportunity to practice and apply the principles of high preforming teams learned on Thursday. Click here to view the Workgroup Structure summary for more information about the specifics of the format.

The retreat will conclude on Saturday with Jean Kim, Head of School at Cambridge Classical in San Diego and SCL board member, presenting a case study on her experience building her leadership team. There will be ample time for collaboration and reflection, including a facilitated discussion led by Peter Baur, who serves as Head of School at Faith Christian School in Roanoke, VA and an SCL board member.
